Kinder Gym Pre schoolActivity Class structure

The class ages are a guideline only. We believe all children are individuals and move children up to a new class, after discussion with the parent, when they are ready.

Tottering to 2 years

This class is for the child to familiarise himself with the apparatus, learning the basic skills of how to approach each object. there is no set pattern and the parent and child are invited to explore each piece of equipment as the child discovers it. It is a good grounding for moving onto the 2 to 3 year old class.

...........................................................................

2 to 3 years

This class is more structured and disciplined. The children are divided into 4 groups and spend some time on each 'stage' of the apparatus with the guidance and instruction of the coach, moving on to the next 'stage' when directed. We understand that all the children are developing their own views and will not always obey the rules. It is a good place to learn social skills, and the beginnings of "rules" and we are very flexible.

3 - 4 years

Children over 3 years are ready to test their independence and enjoy attending on their own and relating to the staff and other children rather than their parents. The term begins with going over learnt skills without the parent's help. As the term progresses and confidence is gained more tasks are introduced, stretching the child to maximum potential. Parents can make themselves a cup of tea, go shopping or watch as they wish.

By the time they are 4 years  numbers and shapes are introduced within the assault course, which becomes more challenging, and there is more focus on group game play. The children develop their social skills and their independence and are encouraged to use their imagination regarding the way in which they approach the tasks. They have great fun in this age group! Especially with the parachute at the end of the term!!

...........................................................................

4 - 6 years (Reception and Year 1)

In this extended hour long class the children still enjoy the challenge of the varied assault courses. However , after our warm up song, we begin with a series of stretching techniques. We concentrate more on the techniques of
basic gymnastics, forward and  backward rolls, balancing with the correct posture and also focus on a new skill each term. This term we are working on handstands, and the assault courses and games will be geared towards strenghening the relevant muscles.
The class ends with a group game or song with rhythm sticks or bean bags  before we cool down.

We welcome all at Kinder Gym and have a wide experience of special needs, autism, hearing and visual difficulties. You tell us how we can help and we will recommend a class for you.

"To all at Kindergym, I am an Ofsted and network childminder with years of experience. I look after many children; some of these have a disability or have special educational needs. Just a year ago one child who I looked after , aged 4 years, could not stand up from a sitting position unaided or walk up & down steps without adult supervision & she can now do both. Jenny and her team's specialist knowledge and experience in how to climb, balance, & crawl safely, in conjunction with the specialist healthcare professionals this child sees, has really helped develop the confidence and physical skills needed. This particular child loves the warm up & cool down  singing sessions & can't wait to get started at the beginning of each session!  The regular activities  have not only helped with physical skills but also with confidence and language skills. Many thanks Judy Thornton"
